“Timber”: a chapbook

May 6, 2024 | News Item, Postings

My story “Timber” is now a limited edition chapbook available from espresso as of April, 2024. www.espresso-chapbooks.com

The story begins with me ripping up the kitchen floor and in the process unearthing memories of my father. “I sat back on my heels and the question came fully formed. ‘How do we build a love from the dark timbers of the past?’”

It’s a story that tries to get to the heart of being ashamed of something you’ve written—not because you think it’s bad writing, it might be the best writing you’ve done, but because it has hurt people close to you. The distinction between fiction and non-fiction can be a fine line. It’s often one thing for the writer and another for the reader.
